Did you know that the concept “society” as never been clearly defined before?
Many sociologists have tried to define societies by describing how they are structured, how they function or through their main economic activities, but they were never able to scientifically define the concept. This led me several years ago to ask the following question:
How can we change societies if we do not know what they are?
The Concept Is Finally Defined
After more than ten years of research, I can now safely say that there is only way to view societies and it is to see them as organizations. In a way this is compatible with the description sociologists made because the way they are structured or the way that they function is only a reflection of how we have decided to organize ourselves and most importantly on how we try to solve the various social tensions, frictions and conflicts that naturally arise because we are social beings.
Society at a Glance
Using the lenses of management it is now possible to understand that societies are only the result of our individual, group and collective actions as well as the way we use the 4 types of available resources.
The First Step to Sustainable Change
By better understanding societies and its common underlying goal it is now possible to improve the governance and the process by which we facilitate change.
The Second Step
The second step is to promote the idea that societies are organizations, that they belong to us and that we individually, in groups or collectively manage 4 types of resources.
